Announcing our new Rector

Julie at wedding rehearsal

The Reverend Julie Hoplamazian has been called to be the 7th Rector of the Church of St. Luke and St. Matthew.

Reverend Hoplamazian is a Philadelphia native. She holds a B.S. in Music Education from Gettysburg College, and spent several years teaching music both in the classroom and in a private studio before attending Princeton Theological Seminary, where she received her Master of Divinity.  After graduating from Princeton, Julie moved to New York and served in the Diocesan office of the Armenian Orthodox Church as the Coordinator of College Ministry.  In 2010, she followed God’s call to ordained ministry and joined the Episcopal Church. She was ordained as a priest in the Diocese of Long Island in 2012. Julie comes to SLSM having served, since her ordination, as the Associate Rector of Grace Church, Brooklyn Heights.

In her spare time, Julie keeps up her creative side, practicing her plie’s in the ballet studio and her scales at the piano, or trying new vegan recipes in the kitchen with her husband, Jeremy.  Julie and Jeremy are animal lovers; you might hear a bark coming from the Rectory every now and then from their dog, Takouhi (“queen” in Armenian), a rescued Australian Shepherd mutt. All three of them love calling Brooklyn “home” and are very excited to continue to make their home here.
