Rector’s Message
Knowing that we can be loved exactly as we are gives us all the best opportunity for growing into the healthiest of people.
– Fred Rogers, Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood
I am delighted to welcome you to the cyber pages of this “virtual neighborhood.” We like to think of ourselves as “Your Neighborhood Church,” and although we know we have a geographical neighborhood (Fort Greene/Clinton Hill/Brooklyn), we also know that our spiritual neighbors are located much further afield.
Above all things, we are committed to preaching and living the unconditional love of God, the humanity and divinity of Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit as we have come to know ourselves as followers of Jesus who are Episcopalians and members of the 75 million world wide Anglican Communion.
This is a place where we hope you will see that the family of God comes in all sorts and varieties of manifestations, and that neighbors are not just those who live on your street, or in this town. Our baptism makes us citizens of a much larger community of saints who have been, are here now, and are yet to come. We are uniquely called to “love God with all our heart, and all our soul, and all our strength, and all our mind, and to love our neighbor as ourselves.”
Absolutely everyone is welcome in this place, because we know that God loves absolutely everyone unconditionally. We believe that when we welcome you, we are welcoming Jesus, whose sacred body we are.
I hope you will visit us some Sunday. Soon!! Feel free to call me if you have questions, or just want to come by for a cup of coffee!
(The Rev. Canon) Richard F. Brewer, Rector
